Clean oven with baking soda
Follow the 5 steps below to clean the oven with baking soda.
1. Add a thick layer of baking soda.
Before you clean the oven, make sure it has cooled completely. Then remove the oven rack, which you can soak in hot water and vinegar in the kitchen sink. When you are sure it has cooled down, you can safely sprinkle the bottom of the oven with a thick layer of baking soda.
2. Spray water over the baking soda.
Using a sprayer filled with water, spray baking soda until it is moist but not soaked with water. If you are using tap water, there will be no problem. When you use water and baking soda, it helps break down food particles.
3. Continue spraying with water.
Water the baking soda every few hours to keep it hydrated. Continue this process for several hours, watering until the baking soda begins to dry out.
4. Remove the baking soda from the oven.
Take a kitchen trash can with a plastic garbage bag and place it next to the oven. Then wipe it down with a sponge or cloth. Scrape the baking soda from the oven with a sponge or cloth, then place it in the lined trash can. Remove food residue with baking soda. Coarser areas can be removed with a steel, wool or plastic scraper.
5. Rinse the bottom of the oven.
Using a clean bucket of water and a sponge, wipe any remaining baking soda from the oven. After more than one water change, rinse thoroughly.
The next time it’s time to cook, the food won’t impart flavor and aroma to the oven cleaner. Ovens operate more efficiently without food waste, reducing energy costs.
